A Much Needed Spring BREAK

Although our next trip was supposed to be in May, we found a way to sneak away for a weekend without the kids to Pine Mountain, Ga and then a few days to the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida, as a family.

It rained on the way down to Pine Mountain, but it stopped long enough for us to do some sightseeing.  Our first stop was to the Little White House in Warm Springs, Ga.

We were able to see the spot where FDR passed away while posing for a portrait while President of the United States.

After dinner at Aspens Mountain Grill, we spent some time laughing around the firepit. We found a little coffee shop to stop in for breakfast on Saturday morning.

We also happened to be in town for the city’s annual festival, Pine Mountain Days.  We met some great small business owners and picked up some fried pork skins, a fried apple pie, and a small blade.

After enjoying the festival, we left Pine Mountain to drive back home to be at the Grand Opening of our brother and sister’s car wash, His Hands Car Wash & Detailing.

Phillip has been asking about the beach for a while now and he finally got his wish.  Our campground happened to be right on the beach and it was gorgeous! image

As soon as we arrived, we headed to have a beachfront picnic.

The whole week was full of games, bike riding, seashell collecting, Frisbee playing, fire pits, morning walks on the beach, and enjoying evening sunsets.

Of course, we also did some sightseeing and learned some history. Phillip is fascinated with airplanes, so we knew that going to see the Blue Angels would be a big hit for him. However, it turned out to be a huge hit for the whole family.

We also enjoyed visiting the Naval Aviation Museum and Fort Barrancas while on the Navy base.

I think we found a hidden gem when we came across Uncle Sandy’s Macaw Bird Park. It’s a rescue shelter for exotic birds and we really enjoyed it. We all got to feed the birds and learn a little bit about them!

Before heading home, we wanted to see if we could cook a whole meal over campfire…and we did! We are still kinda new at this thing but we made pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausage and the kids LOVED it! Not a big deal to some but after some trial and error, we’re figuring this thing out 🙂

On the last day, we did one more tour, this time of Fort Pickens, which is where our campground was located.

We had a great time this past week in Pine Mountain and in the Pensacola area. It still amazes us that it’s been less than a year since we got the RV. Actually, this time last year, we didn’t even know we wanted one! A lot can happen in a year!
